The International Relations Center of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne organizes various Summer Schools, which take place every year under the title “Doing Business in Germany” (DBi Germany). The events are aimed at (executive) MBA students of more than 120 international partner institutions of the faculty.

The Summer School with the thematic focus on the energy industry took place this year from 4 to 15 March 2018. In addition to stations in Bonn, Berlin and Leipzig, the 12 participating (executive) MBA students from the USA and Australia visited various companies and scientific institutions in Cologne. ATHION also took part in the DBi Germany Energy Study Tour 2018 with a presentation at the ATHION Office.

Timo Panke, Business Development Manager at ATHION, first presented the business model and products of ATHION and reported on the strategic challenges of start-ups in the energy industry. Afterwards Mirko Hackbarth, ATHION project engineer, explained the implementation of the economic optimization of energy producers and consumers by ATHION OPTIMIZATION. To illustrate the presented content, he guided the MBA students through the ATHION customer portal and showed the live demo of a customer who uses ATHION OPTIMIZATION to optimize the operation of his district heating network.

After their stay at ATHION, the international group of students went on a guided tour through the Cologne Cathedral.
